New Year Recipes - Pickled Salt Herring
Ingredients: 4 Salt herring fillets 2 Onions, sliced 1/2 Carrot, sliced 1/2 Small leek, sliced 1 tablespoon Peppercorns, crushed 2 Bay leaves 2 Red onions, sliced Marinade 6 tablespoons Vinegar 150 ml Water 80 g Sugar Procedures: - Soaked salt herring fillets overnight in water.
- Mix the marinade ingredients and boil in a saucepan. Set aside and allow to cool.
- Rinse the herring fillets.
- Make alternate layers of herring, onion, carrot, leek and flavourings in a bowl.
- Pour over the marinade.
- Cover and keep in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
- Serve garnished with sliced red onion.
