New Year Recipes - Pickled Salt Herring

Ingredients:
4 Salt herring fillets
2 Onions, sliced
1/2 Carrot, sliced
1/2 Small leek, sliced
1 tablespoon Peppercorns, crushed
2 Bay leaves
2 Red onions, sliced

Marinade
6 tablespoons Vinegar
150 ml Water
80 g Sugar

Procedures:

  1. Soaked salt herring fillets overnight in water. 
  2. Mix the marinade ingredients and boil in a saucepan. Set aside and allow to cool.
  3. Rinse the herring fillets.
  4. Make alternate layers of herring, onion, carrot, leek and flavourings in a bowl.
  5. Pour over the marinade.
  6. Cover and keep in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
  7. Serve garnished with sliced red onion.
